Chapter one of Integrating Differentiated Instruction and Understanding by Design describes how both differentiated Instruction (DI) and Understanding by Design (UbD) work together. Many teachers wander how to meet state and district standards while catering to the different types of learners in the classroom. Following a UbD/ DI curriculum can help answer that question. This chapter defines UbD as a curriculum design model that focuses on what is being taught and how to meet the standards. DI “focuses on whom we teach, where we teach and how we teach.” Combining both UbD and DI allows teachers to create the best curriculum for all students in their classroom. Together both UbD and DI follow state/ district standards while focusing on each student as an individual. This chapter also had a number of different axioms/ corollaries. Each axiom/corollary gives examples on how both UbD and DI work together.
This first chapter allowed me to understand how to incorporate this model into my teaching. The way that this chapter presents scenarios makes it easier to come up with my own ideas of how to integrate DI and UbD into my own lesson plans. It is important to remember that “UbD/ DI are a way of thinking not a program.” A teacher must be flexible. If the class is falling behind the teacher must be able to look at the problems and fix them. It is also important to keep ideas that work and change other ideas that did not work. Using UbD/ DI in my classroom will allow me to accommodate all my student's needs while following state/ district standards

I liked your blog link. It is cool to see teachers using the models, putting them into action, not just reading about them.
Yeah! Great usage of a blog as a resource. This looks like some really intruiging stuff. If I had to describe my feelings about it, one word...STOKED!
The second link was very good. It really helps to tie all of the things we've been learning together, and helps combine it to a real world perspective. Nice Job!
Brenna, I like the diagram that describes DI. It helps to understand the model much better. Good find!
Brenna, I think it was a great idea to include a blog as a link. They are always being updated so teachers can learn new ideas and use them in their own classroom!
I liked the blog that you link. Not only did it have a lot of information in it but it also had some great links to go check out. I also enjoyed the comments at the bottom of the page.
I really like the first link. I like how it breaks down DI and how the graphic shows that it is a continuous circle and does not end with the assessment.
In looking at the references to you first link there seem to be even more sites and resources that will be available to keep the ideas fresh. This is a good link to get addtional background and grab other information from.
The link to the blog was a really great choice because it has links that can guide your readers to even more sites so that they may learn more than just what you though was an important link, but are also able to learn what other people on the web thinks is important.
I enjoyed the model link because when I can see other person's point of view not just a page full of facts it helps me to understand the material better. Seeing someone else's ideas on what we are learning right now, beside that of my teacher, is beneficial. It puts the material in my hands not just on the page, I like it!
The link to the blog looks really interesting. I'd like to read more of what it says about using DI in the classroom.
Brenna,
I like the first link that you have, that has a visual way to explain differential instruction. I like that the site is well organized. I was wondering if you could make the link bigger (like instead of my DI but more words) so that it is easier to find. It is too important to blend in!
The second link was very interesting. It seems like it explained the understanding by design model very well.
I think the DI link was very useful. It displayed a good visual of what exactly DI is and how the process functions and works. It will be a good resource to reflect back on.
